The release of the hotly anticipated James Bond video game, titled 007 First Light, will now arrive later until 27 May 2026.
Originally slated for a 27 March release, the title is now set to arrive approximately 60 days past its original date.
This project signifies the maiden video game starring the famous British spy following 2012's 007 Legends, ending a lengthy hiatus for the character in the gaming world.
"Our project is entirely complete from the first mission to the last," stated studio IO Interactive. "But, we are utilizing this extra time to apply final touches and guarantee it satisfies the high expectations of our players."
The game is in production in partnership with Delphi Interactive, a studio also responsible for another high-profile title.
Patrick Gibson, recognized from Dexter: Original Sin, will star as a young James Bond in what is promoted as a reimagined origin story.
The narrative will follow Bond as he gets enlisted into MI6 and is granted his coveted 00 status, delivering a self-contained tale independent of the films or books.
Enhancing the star power, US singer Lenny Kravitz will perform as the title's primary antagonist.
Released gameplay trailers have shown certain resemblances with IO Interactive's popular Hitman franchise, while also featuring the expected gadgets and cinematic set pieces synonymous with Bond.
That said, comments from viewers on these trailers raised concerns regarding graphical fidelity, pointing out frame rate drops and the use of motion blur.
IO Interactive has referred to 007 First Light its "largest-scale project to date."
"Our team is sure this prepares 007 First Light up for enduring popularity," the studio stated. "We are grateful for the understanding and ongoing enthusiasm we've received."
