News has broken that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
Lawrence and Hutcherson are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their roles will probably be featured in a future-set scene, as the original saga concluded with their characters living in peace.
This marks the sixth film in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a newly published work by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who directed the majority of the previous films in the series.
The film's events are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
