Micky van de Ven Double Halts The Toffees' Run at New Stadium

Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to put their impressive record at risk, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien believed he had levelled the tally five minutes after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of excellent saves to guarantee Tottenham went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the VAR intervened, instructing Craig Pawson to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves the manager's side up to third in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton remain in 14th position and sit half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven excels in role at both ends of the field

Following a drab weekday performance in the European competition against the French side, where they mustered a mere attempts on target, the manager opted for the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back Van de Ven transformed into an attacking force to be feared.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a well-worked corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the six-yard box for an unmarked Van de Ven to score.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in Cristian Romero's absence - notched his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he rose above Jordan Pickford to head home.

The Dutchman was just as outstanding in defensive duties, partnering effectively with Kevin Danso as the pair handled excellently with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

The club's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have worn off slightly and supporters headed to the exits after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a major worry for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's two established strikers - had netted just one league goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were unable to add to that miserable record on a damp and dreary night on Merseyside.

Beto's form was summed up when he opted to bicycle-kick a clear chance from close range, even with having space and time to readjust for a more conventional attempt that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, too, was unable to make an impact after coming on for Beto in the 65th minute.

It was not for a lack of chance. Most of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who relentlessly delivered threatening balls into the Spurs box.
